Andor first hit screens back in September with a total of 12 episodes airing weekly. The show focused on a new aspect of the Star Wars galaxy and the character of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna). The Disney Plus show was set during the building rebellion against the Empire and how some of the other planets and people became involved in the fight.

Will there be another series of Andor?

Yes, is the short answer with Andor season two getting the green light back in May 2022, months before the show came out and reports as early as February of a second outing.

The second outing is expected to have another 12 instalments coming out on the platform on a weekly basis.

The early renewal suggests Disney had a great deal of confidence in Andor with the show first being announced back in November 2018.

Andor’s director of photography Adriano Goldman previously suggested to Brazilian news channel TV Cultura the show would possibly be running for a total of three seasons rather than five – as was initially thought.

When will Andor season 2 be released?

Filming on season two has started filming now from today (November 21), according to Collider.

The shoot is slated to last until August 2023, which means season two would then need to go through post-production with special effects before it was finally ready to come out.

The publication went on to confirm season two would be the final season of Andor.

Judging by this timeframe, the earliest the show could be coming out may be late 2023 or even at some point in 2024.

Who will be in the cast of Andor season 2?

The main cast is expected to be coming back to the show with Luna reprising his role as the titular hero.

However, fans will have to wait and see who makes it out alive from the season one finale.

Depending on the casualties and fallout from the last episode, cast members expected to return include Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha, Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen and Kyle Soller as Syril Karn.

There are expected to be new cast members also joining the show as the story expands.

Andor’s showrunner Tony Gilroy previously said season two would see new directors coming on board including Janus Metz, Alonso Ruizpalacios and Ariel Kleiman.

There will also be new writers for the forthcoming series including Gilroy’s brother Dan, Beau Willimon and Tom Bissell.

What will happen in Andor season 2?

This will depend entirely on how the first outing wraps up but presumably, it will be a continuation of the story, depicting the events before Rogue One.

Gilroy previously teased the second outing would be a marked difference from the first one.

He told Rolling Stone: “Because the first year is really about him becoming, and the last line of this tranche of 12 episodes will sum up where we’ve been trying to get to.

“And we come back a year later. It’ll be very different. The next four years [of story] are not about becoming a revolutionary.

“They’re about learning to be a leader and how difficult it is to put the alliance together and what happens to people who are the original gangsters versus the establishment and a lot of different other issues.”

Interestingly, there could be time jumps with Gilroy teasing the show would also look at how the characters are affected by the passage of time and how they evolve during this period.
