William Gibson’s cyberpunk world has finally come to life in Amazon Prime Video’s dystopian drama The Peripheral. Starring Kick-A** actress Chloë Grace Moretz, her co-star T’Nia Miller recently opened up to Express.co.uk about a challenging fight scene with the show’s combat-trained star which happens later in the series.
T’Nia suggested she was rather daunted by the prospect of facing her co-star Chloë in a physical showdown.
The 25-year-old actress landed her breakout role in the 2010 film Kick-A**, in which she portrays a trained assassin and vigilante, Hit-Girl.
Her co-star, meanwhile, is around 37 and is better known for her dramatic roles in series such as The Haunting of Bly Manor and Years and Years.
When Express.co.uk asked about Chloë’s training, T’Nia exclaimed: “I know! I was like, ‘I’m middle-aged. I’ve got back problems!’”
“When they said, ‘So, there’s a fight scene’ – that was part of the re-writes.”
T’Nia revealed this particular sequence wasn’t actually in the script when she initially signed on, so she wasn’t expecting to face off against Chloe at this stage of the season.
“There’s a fight scene, I went, ‘Okay, right, yes’,” she recalled.
“Then they sent a video of the choreography and I was like, ‘You want me to do what now?’”
Fans will have to tune in each Friday to discover the specifics of the sequence, but needless to say, both actresses perform some impressive moves.
Some of the more daring manoeuvers were achieved by The Peripheral’s stunt team, but T’Nia was still impressed by what she was able to pull off.
“But, actually, I did some of it and I was very happy with that,” she said. “We had a couple of rehearsals.
“I did not do the backflips. The spin kicks, yes, but the backflips no!”

While the first episodes of the series feature Chloë investigating post-apocalyptic London behind a virtual reality headset, the action is sure to ramp up as The Peripheral delves deeper into Gibson’s sprawling sci-fi world.
At The Peripheral’s London premiere, Express.co.uk caught up with the show’s lead actress who also singled out the action scenes as a highlight of the series.
“I was really lucky to be able to literally flex my muscles in this show,” Chloë said. “It was really fun to jump back into action.
“I really kept up with [training] since I was younger. I haven’t had the opportunity over the last several years to show that side of myself.”
“But it was really great to dig into it in this show. And they really pushed me to go for it.
“We had a wonderful stunt team in both America and the UK and it was really cool,” she added.
“We did a lot of interesting mixed martial arts and a lot of judo, which I feel like you don’t see a lot of women do on screen.”
The Peripheral is hoped to pave the way for even more of Gibson’s work to be translated to the screen, so hopefully, this won’t be the last sci-fi fans have seen of his immersive fictional futures.
