Ford will first debut in the film as the Indy we all know from his days in Indiana Jones and the Raiders Of The Lost Ark and then quickly age forward to his current self in 1969, when the fifth film in the franchise is set.

Harrison, who hasn’t taken on the mantle of the Nazi-fighting archeologist since 2008’s Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, admitted of the de-aging process, ‘It’s a little spooky,’ to see his younger self, telling Empire Magazine, ‘I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works.’

Quieter life: The trailer suggests Indy was enjoying a quieter life back in education before being thrown back into adventure

The veteran action-star has given the technical process a thumbs up, revealing, ‘This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it.’

De-aging is a 3D effect technology used to make an actor look younger. To do so, post-production studios typically edit a digital image or apply computer-generated imagery (CGI) overlays or touch-ups to the necessary scenes, according to ReSpeecher.

The plot for the as-yet untitled project has not been completely revealed, but Empire reports it’s set in the middle of the space race between the US and former USSR.

Co-writer Jeff Butterworth explained, ‘The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How “ex” they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…’

Whoa! There is no shortage of action to be had

Adventure awaits: Indy is persuaded to prop on his iconic fedora one more time

Harrison, who still flies his own private airplane, describes the story as ‘full of adventure, full of laughs, full of real emotion. And it’s complex and it’s sneaky.’

The opportunity to step back into Indy’s world was exciting for the actor, who wasn’t ready to say goodbye to his famous alter-ego. ‘I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey. If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character.’

But getting back into action mode nearly 40 years after making the original was not easy. ‘The shooting of it was tough and long and arduous,’ the action hero admitted. ‘But I’m very happy with the film that we have.’
